Adobe Museum of Digital Media

Adobe Museum of Digital Media - "The world's first digital museum dedicated to digital art and innovation". Opening September 2010.

The AMDM is a space unlike any created before. Because it is entirely digital, it is an ideal gallery for displaying and viewing digital media, as well as revealing the innovation and artistry within the work. It is open to the public 365 days a year and is accessible from anywhere in the world.

This is definitely something to keep an eye out for in September. It has the potential to be spectacular, or spectacularly awful. The whole thing seems very contrived to me but I'll remain optimistic until I can look inside. I've yet to be convinced of what value packaging an online exhibition into a second virtual layer will bring but hey, it might be awesome.

The architecture designed by Filippo Innocenti is... interesting. It's fluid, futuristic, and probably doesn't obey the laws of physics. Nevertheless it's definitely not boring and has led onto a very cool design process combining digital and organic elements. The tour guide & camera is a cross between a jellyfish and HAL (my words). I'm a big fan, I hope the tour ends with a giftshop selling key rings of this fella.

The graphical branding and identity of AMDM seems rather vague or just quite scarce at the moment. I'd imagine something stronger will appear in September. The "museums" first exhibit will be New York artist Tony Oursler, followed by John Maeda and Mariko Mori.
