Grain & Gram is "The New Gentleman's Journal".
Grain & Gram is a new showcase journal that features skilled tradesmen (and women? maybe not..) in a series of "5 questions with", and longer featured articles.
The design, typography and photography is absolutely stunning. See the feature on Nick Sambrato for example. They even sneak in an embedded HD video that feels remarkable at home with the traditional graphic design. This is high quality editorial at its best.
Being the web designer that I am I had a little look at the underlying code and was pleased to see this website was designed and built using the 960 Grid System. I design with 960 but normally build my own way. The Grain & Gram source is very tidy though.
The only let down (for me anyway) is the use of Cufon as a font replacement technique. That's a compromise too far in my opinion considering the amount of font-face embeddable fonts these days. Plantin (which Grain & Gram appear to use) is only available legally through Webtype - for an extortionate cost, shame.
To finish, awesome website.
